Name: Lillian Darc
Gender: Male
Age: 29 years old
Place of residence: The Capitol
Family, friends … etc: His family owns the major cheese factories in District 10 where they have as close as a monopoly on all dairy as possible. He is the public face of the Darc Dairy and Cheese Company (the DDCC), and deals with public appearance and relations.
His aunt and uncle, Jehanne and Leopold, are twin siblings and heads of the family. He grew up with them, in luxurious offices and rich houses in between business trips to District 10.
He is a single child and has more ties with his uncle and aunt, whom he loves a lot, than with his parents. Jehanne and Leopold never having had children themselves, Lillian is the direct heir to the family company.
He has a pleasant relationship with his other uncle Darius, head of publicity for the company.
Sadly, due to having gravitated mostly in his family sphere and nowhere else really, he doesn’t have many friends in the Capitol other than his cousins and his dog, Dog.
Travelling often to District 10, he befriended, a couple years before the war, the goat milk factory director: Aelon Branley. His feelings for Aelon are long past simple friendship, but due to their respective professional situations, and the aftermath of the war, Lillian never confessed nor intend to in the near future. He’d hate to Aelon to feel forced, blackmailed or threatened, if his feelings were unrequited.
Appearance: Lillian is too tall and too thin, his hands too long, like huge white spiders. He stands up very straight and it seems as if he would never bow his head to anything or anyone. His hair is red and his eyes are blue. He has full lips that thin a little when he smiles and a beauty spot under his left eye. His face is very smooth, maybe due to his tendency to not display a lot of emotions in public.
Characteristics: - He is extremely polite and respectful toward all the District 10 workers.
- His family means everything to him. He is extremely loyal to anyone who gains his affection and love.
- He is always ready to educate himself, and subsequently change his mind on various subject, such as... the reasons and validity of the districts rebellion.
- Lillian’s pretty, so he became the social face of the DDCC. But he is in fact very bad at actual social interactions. Most of his appearances and speeches are written in advance, and he can be dismissive and cold when taken by surprise.
- As much as he tries to learn and sympathize with the Districts issues, he is still from the Capitol, and thinks about things from a very privileged place.
- He silently judges you. Everywhere. Always.
Past: Lillian met Aëlon before the district rebellion. That’s how they call it in the Capitol: the rebellion, or the dark days. In the districts they just call it the war.
Before the rebellion, Lillian never stopped to ask himself about the fairness of the political situation. After Aëlon, Lillian never stopped asking discreet questions in between the cow milk and the goat cheese. If at first their meetings ended with Aelon looking at him with suspicion and anxiousness, it soon evolved in whispered exchange of ideas and political pamphlets, stubborn incomprehension from Lillian and quiet but stern recriminations from Aelon.
The war came, and with it, fear. Fear in the districts and the Capitol alike, fear in Lillian’s heart when he realised his friend’s involvement with the rebellion. He asked Aëlon, in vain, to cease this dangerous behaviour, to come back to reason and safety, before accepting the reasons and stubbornness of his friend, closing his eyes on his more illegal activities, turning aside when weapons and Intel was passed around in his cheese factory. The furthest his involvement went during this troubled year was to give Aëlon an alibi when his involvement with a series of sabotaged train lines was brought up by the Capitol authorities and, only once, warning his workers about an upcoming search by hiding the information in a small round of Brie and hoping nothing would ever link back to him.
The war ended 15 months after it started. Aëlon came back to work, his eyes dull and his face ashen. It took a full other year for him and Lillian to talk about the event of the failed rebellion and the horror of the newly starting games. If Lillian was now looking at Aëlon with soft sad eyes and if his words betrayed his quiet longing, well, neither of them ever brought it up.
Lillian hates the games. He hates the senseless loss of young lives and the cheerful cruelty of the Capitol citizen. He asks himself, at night, if he would have been part of the cheering crowds had he not met Aëlon almost ten years ago.
