| Both of her Tributes died. Madelynn felt bad for being happy, but she was. It was like she was finally able to breathe again. Logan only died because she did not receive any water, which was actually a very lame way to die, especially in the violent Hunger Games. Madelynn even murdered Dean, to prevent him to die in such an undeserving way. However, she didn’t do anything for Logan. She could have, but she didn’t. She didn’t want to. Oliver died the day after in a fight, so this second visit to The Capital had been quick. Madelynn only felt relieve at the time, as she was glad to return home. To be honest, the visit felt longer than last year, because she had nothing really to focus on. She wasn’t supposed to fight or do anything, except party and beg for rich people’s money. And she hated it.
Now Madelynn was back in District 7, where she purposelessly wandered around the woods. Guilt was eating her alive, and both her body and soul were begging for some booze. She never had so much alcohol in such a short period of time as during this stay in The Capitol, and she knew there were people who started to worry about her. She wasn’t doing particularly well in the first place, so personally she couldn’t see how it could possibly get worse. Caleb was murdered. She murdered other people. The only thing she could do was fake a smile.
Unfortunately some people knew her too well to be convincing.
The smell from the trees was incredibly reassuring, but Madelynn hated how every sound she heard, whether it was the wind or a bird, startled her. She was still scared and about everything reminded her of the Arena. The small streams reminded her of all the water that coloured red with blood. The trees reminded her of her betrayal. It was hard to be positive. Wearily she sat down on a fallen log, where the sun was able to touch her face. Madelynn closed her eyes, while she tried to forget about everything. For a minute she was actually somewhat relaxed, just sitting there like there was no cruelty in this world. A nearby sound ended this abrubtly, and with wide eyes she scanned the area. This definitely wasn’t the wind, but Lynn was unable to point out where it did come from. A chill went down her spine, as she reached for the weapon on her hip. Madelynn knew she could kill if it was necessary, which only made her more self-conscious. Would she ever kill, without it being necessary? The sounds increased and at this point Madelynn menacingly held her axe in the air.
She was ready for a fight.
